### Is my financial data really private?

Your saved portfolio stays in your browser. Income Refinery is a web application that runs in your browser. Your holdings, income figures and targets are stored in your browser's localStorage, are not uploaded to an Income Refinery backend, and are not shared with a third party by Income Refinery. External calls are limited to: FX rates (currency codes only, no user data), which may be fetched automatically when rates are missing or stale; the dividend data providers you choose to connect (only the ticker symbol is sent, not your holdings or income figures); and, if you use Refer a Friend, the name and email you enter in that form.

### What happens if I clear my browser data?

Your data lives in localStorage, so clearing browser storage would remove it. Free users should take extra care for this reason — it's one of the most compelling reasons to upgrade to Pro, which includes both JSON backup/restore and Excel export so your data is never at risk. Pro users: export after every session and keep a few dated copies in Google Drive or Dropbox so you can restore from any device.

### What does "Yours Forever" mean for the Pro plan?

### Can I track non-USD income? I own stocks and properties in other countries.

Yes — this is one of Income Refinery's core strengths. You can hold income sources in any of 21 currencies (USD, SGD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, HKD, JPY, MYR, CNY, INR, KRW, CHF, SEK, BRL, ZAR, THB, IDR, PHP, ILS and PLN) and choose any of them as your base. Live FX rates are automatically fetched from the European Central Bank via the Frankfurter API, with a backup source if that is unavailable. For the three exchange currencies with no live rate (SAR, TWD and RUB), you type the rate yourself. Each holding or property stores its own currency and FX rate, and the tool prompts you to sync when rates are refreshed. You can track exchanges across NYSE, NASDAQ, LSE, HKEX, SGX, TSX, ASX, and 23 other major markets — all in one unified dashboard.

### Does the tool work offline?

Mostly yes. Once the required app assets are available in the browser, normal data entry, editing and calculations do not require an Income Refinery backend, and your dashboard keeps working without a connection. Live FX rate refresh and online dividend lookups need an internet connection. FX rates are cached and remain valid for 24 hours, so you can keep working with your last-fetched rates. Spreadsheet import and export use SheetJS 0.20.3, loaded from a locally hosted file in the free app and embedded in Pro, with nothing loaded from a third-party site.

### What dividend data providers do you support?

Income Refinery supports a priority pipeline of 8 data sources: your own uploaded watchlist spreadsheet (highest priority), then Twelve Data, EODHD, Financial Modeling Prep, Alpha Vantage, Polygon.io, MarketStack, and finally Yahoo Finance as a last-resort fallback. All 6 premium API key inputs are available on both the free and Pro plans — simply enter your own API keys from each provider. Yahoo Finance requires no key but is unreliable in practice — coverage is inconsistent and it may return no data without warning. We recommend connecting at least one premium provider for dependable results.

### Is Income Refinery suitable if I'm just starting out with income investing?

Yes — and it's one of the best reasons to start. Many people beginning their passive income journey have no idea what their monthly income number actually is, because their dividends, savings interest, and any rental income live in completely separate places. Income Refinery gives you that number immediately. Add your first dividend holding and you'll see a projected monthly income figure right away.
